ABLD 4BH3 - Critical Issues in Black Communities and Health
Offering: Winter 2024
This course offers an interdisciplinary interrogation of how processes of racialization act as a key social determinant of health to shape the health experiences, outcomes, and perspectives of Black communities. Students will engage in a sociohistorical analysis to identify and better understand how macrolevel factors continue to shape the complex relationship between Black communities and health care systems. Through a critical exploration of structural racial health disparities and barriers, this course also complicates existing discourses regarding health equity interventions and explores new approaches to understanding and addressing racial equity gaps in health care.
