This art showcase is the culminating project for the course INSPIRE 3EL3 C03: Inspiring Ecological Connection, taught by Dr. Sara Karn. Students created an arts-based expression of ecological empathy and care, in response to the prompt:
What might the planet say and feel in this moment in time?
Drawing inspiration from our outdoor learning experiences over four weeks, students selected an element from the local environment (e.g., plant, animal, water, land, natural phenomenon) and represented its voice through visuals, words, and/or sounds. The arts-based expressions could take the form of a creative writing piece, painting, song, video, or drawing—the possibilities were endless! All artwork is accompanied by an artist statement that includes a title, description of the piece and the creative process behind it, as well as insights into the significance and what they hope to communicate through the artwork.
By sharing this artwork in an online showcase, we hope to inspire ecological empathy and care within the wider McMaster community!
