INSPIRE 3EL3 C02 - Gardening for Growth: Cultivating Resiliency, Putting Down Roots, and Developing Green Thumbs
Offering: Intersession 2025
Gardening for Growth: Cultivating Resiliency, Putting Down Roots, and Developing Green Thumbs is an introduction to the wonderful world of engaging with plants as a mindfulness practice for daily life. Together, we will develop gardening skills, exploring the spaces around McMaster University, engaging with subject-matter experts on topics ranging from Indigenous botany to greenhouse growing, canning and food preservation, container growing, and pollinator support. We will observe the greenery around us, taking lessons from plants’ resilience, adaptability, and ability to balance their needs for growth with their contributions to the environments they inhabit.
Students will increase their knowledge of McMaster University and surrounding areas, gain confidence in their ability to grow green things, and take time and space to reflect on who they are, personally and professionally, and who they want to become.
