LATAM 2AO3 - Introduction to Latin American & Latinx Studies

Offering: Fall 2023

This course serves as a broad introduction to the interdisciplinary fields of Latin American Studies and Latinx Studies. We investigate the questions “What is Latin America?” and “What is Latinx Studies?” through several lenses, including the languages, literatures, cultures, societies, geographies, archaeologies, environmental issues, health care, innovations, histories, identities, migrations, and diasporas of Latin America and its peoples.

We use these interdisciplinary approaches to examine the intersections between race, ethnicity, identity, and migration. The course will also expose students to active/ongoing Latin American Studies research conducted by McMaster scholars and Latin American/Latinx scholars from the Latin American Network at McMaster University (LANMU).

Pre requisites: None
